User Interfaces”) operated by Alarm.com Incorporated (“
Alarm.com”); (ii) for your use of any combination of products and services we or our affiliates provide or which can be purchased or accessed via any User Interface (the “
Services”); and with respect to (iii) Personal Information (as defined below) that is collected about you when the Services are used. Our privacy practices comply with, among other things, the
Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (Canada),
Personal Information Protection Act (British Columbia),
Personal Information Protection Act (Alberta), the
Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (Quebec), and any successor legislation (each as applicable).The Alarm.com Services are provided by licensed authorized service providers (the "
Authorized Service Providers" or "
Alarm.com Dealers"). If you are a customer of an Authorized Service Provider, your information will be processed by Alarm.com on behalf of your Authorized Service Provider, who will remain responsible for processing any personal information it collects about you and for complying with any applicable privacy laws.Please read the Privacy Policy carefully.

Information Collection and UseAlarm.com collects and stores certain information from or about you that can identify you (“
Personal Information”). We use this Personal Information to provide our Services, respond to your inquiries, market our Services, improve our business, to present the Alarm.com website to you, to provide you with notices about your account, to notify you about changes to our website or our Services, as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy, and in any other way we describe when you provide the Personal Information to us.When using the User Interfaces, you may provide us with Personal Information including, but not limited to, your name, home or business address, phone number, email address, payment information, location, or postal code.When you use our Services, you, or your Authorized Service Providers, may provide us with certain additional information (e.g., unit description, home or business size, home or business system configuration, sensor names, appliances or other devices monitored by Alarm.com, account information, schedule, mode, automation settings, and device settings) in order for us to personalize your Services. Alarm.com may also receive Personal Information that you have provided to our partners, including emergency contact information and user profile information, to enable Alarm.com to provide our Services. Alarm.com may collect information regarding your use of the Alarm.com User Interfaces and Services, including but not limited to: performance of any security or other device monitored by Alarm.com, electrical usage or consumption, heating and cooling information, light or other fixture settings, and usage and alert logs. We receive this type of information from your devices that are monitored or controlled by Alarm.com and your computer or other electronic device through which you may access, browse, download, receive, or otherwise use the Alarm.com User Interfaces or Services (each a “
Personal Device”), and we may also receive and collect such information from third parties.Alarm.com does not guarantee the efficiency or total security of its Services. Among other things, it is possible that a hacker may succeed in penetrating the server. It is therefore important to keep in mind, before browsing, registering or using your user account, that an intruder may access Alarm.com's servers and use, for his or her own purposes, the Personal Information or any other information you have disclosed. Under no circumstances shall Alarm.com, nor any of its directors, officers, employees or agents, be held responsible for any acts of hacking or be blamed for any damage or loss that may be caused to you. Note that certain jurisdictions (such as Quebec) prohibit merchants from limiting or excluding their liability as a result of their own act and as such this clause may not be fully enforceable.
Location-based InformationSome features of our Services, such as location-activated arming reminders, thermostat adjustments, vehicle diagnostics, and other location-based Services (collectively, “
GeoServices”), use location information. Before GeoServices information can be used or collected, you must first opt-in to activate these Services. If you enable these features, we will automatically collect and store location information from your Personal Device or vehicle you designate which is capable of producing location data (e.g., mobile device, GPS device, or other vehicle). This location information may include your current location or places you have recently visited. We also may aggregate this information, but this information will only be used for Alarm.com's internal data analysis, security, product improvement, research purposes and to provide information requested by you. If you do not wish for us to collect and store this information, do not enable these features.
Video and Audio DataWhen you (i) subscribe to Alarm.com’s video monitoring or video monitoring add-on Services such as the Visual Verification services, (ii) use a connected doorbell, camera, image sensor or other connected device or wearable or (iii) subscribe to a two-way voice, you may enable us, our service providers, or our central station, to record, store, view and process video and/or audio recordings from your monitoring equipment. This may include capturing and sending to you portions of this data as part of a notification or analyzing the data to identify motion or other events. We may process information from your monitoring equipment so that we can send you alerts. In addition, if you have the recording features enabled, we will capture, process and store video and audio data recordings from your device and you may be able to access those recordings. Data protection and privacy laws in your country may impose certain responsibilities on you and your use of security cameras, connected doorbells and other devices with recording capabilities. You (not Alarm.com) are responsible for ensuring that you comply with any applicable laws. For example, you may need to display a notice that alerts visitors to your home or business that they may be recorded using security cameras and other devices with recording capabilities and how to access our Privacy Policy. Alarm.com takes no responsibility for your compliance with these laws.
Data We Collect AutomaticallyWhen you use the User Interfaces or access Alarm.com Services using your Personal Device, certain information may be collected by automated means, such as cookies. Information about Alarm.com’s use of cookies can be found in our
Cookie Policy.
Information SharingAlarm.com will not disclose your Personal Information to any other entity except:
- as is necessary to provide the Alarm.com User Interfaces and Services to you;
- to your Authorized Service Providers (also referred to as your Alarm.com Dealer), the company through which you subscribed to our Services, for the purposes of fulfilling those Services, customer support, marketing, billing and responding to your requests;
- to the central station selected by your Authorized Service Providers to receive alarm signals and coordinate emergency response;
- when you have opted in to share the information for the purposes then identified;
- when we need to share the information with an entity who works on our behalf to provide the Services (these entities do not have any right to use the Personal Information we provide to them beyond what is necessary to assist us);
- if you are an existing customer of Alarm.com, to promote additional products and Services to you, either directly or through a third party;
- to our affiliates when required to provide or improve the Services; and
- as it is otherwise necessary to disclose as required or permitted by law.
Alarm.com will process all Personal Information received by Authorized Service Providers via contractual arrangements.We use third party service providers to provide us with the following categories of services: marketing, call center services, web/data hosting, software services, cloud services, contract management, document storage, back-up services, reporting, colocation services, log management and supply chain services. Our contracts with these third party service providers require them to only process your Personal Information for specific purposes and at our direction.In addition, we may disclose your information when the information has been converted to a form that cannot be used to identify you directly or indirectly in order to provide aggregate reporting to Authorized Service Providers, our affiliates or for industry reporting purposes. It may also be necessary for us to disclose your Personal Information in case of a merger or combination with, or acquisition of a portion of our business by, another company or entity, in which case Personal Information collected by Alarm.com would be expected to be one of the transferred business assets. In doing so, disclosure will be in accordance with applicable data protection laws.
Cross-Border Transfer of Personal InformationOur servers and officers are located in the United States, so your Personal Information will be transferred to, stored, or processed in the United States. In all cases of transfer of your Personal Information to a jurisdiction other than Quebec and Canada, we ensure that your Personal Information will be treated securely in accordance with this Privacy Policy and that a written contract is entered into with the third party to whom we transfer your Personal Information regarding the processing of your Personal Information and the security of your Personal Information. Any Personal Information used, stored or accessed in jurisdictions other than your home jurisdiction may be subject to the laws of those countries or provinces (for example, where a service provider operates globally). As a result, Personal Information may be disclosed in response to valid requests or requirements of governmental authorities, courts or law enforcement authorities of foreign provinces or countries.
Retention PeriodWe retain your Personal Information only for as long as is reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes for which your Personal Information has been collected, including to satisfy legal, accounting and disclosure requirements and to enforce or defend your rights (the “
Retention Period”). The Retention Period is generally the period of time you have an account with Alarm.com, subject to a preservation period provided for by the law. You may ask us to provide you the duration of the period of time your Personal Information is being kept. In some circumstances and after the Retention Period, we may use anonymized information (so that it can no longer be associated with you) to improve our Service and provide aggregate reporting to Authorized Service Providers, our affiliates or for industry reporting purposes, in which case we may use such anonymized information indefinitely without notifying you afterwards.
Information ProtectionAlarm.com has physical, technological and organizational security measures in place to protect against the loss, misuse, and alteration of your Personal Information including using industry standard encryption. For example, we protect your information through a unique username and password, and we protect certain sensitive communications with our website through server authentication and secure connections. However, no method of data transmission is completely secure.
Right to Access, Correct and Delete Personal InformationYou can exercise the rights below by following the links at
www.alarm.com to your profile and address book pages. These changes will be immediately made to our records. If you wish to stop Services notifications, you may do so through the User Interfaces. For customers of Authorized Service Providers, changes you make to your user profile on the Alarm.com User Interfaces to your user profile may not automatically change the records of your Authorized Service Provider. You should contact your Authorized Service Providers.Therefore, you may exercise the following rights: a) Access: You have the right to request a copy of, or access to, your Personal Information that we hold about you. However, we may not provide your Personal Information where disclosure would reveal Personal Information about another individual or would constitute a violation of applicable law. b) Portability: In certain circumstances, you may have the right to request that certain of your computerized Personal Information be provided to you, or to another organization, in a structured, commonly used format. c) Rectification: We aim to keep your Personal Information up to date and complete. You may update your Personal Information at any time. d) Deletion: You may have the right to request that your Personal Information be deleted when it is no longer required for the purposes for which it was collected or when, among other things, your Personal Information has been used unlawfully. e) Processing: You may request information about the processing of your Personal Information. Specifically, you may request what Personal Information has been collected, how it is processed, the categories of individuals who have access to such Personal Information with Alarm.com, the applicable retention period, the contact information of the privacy officer, and the source of the Personal Information if it was collected from third parties. f) Consent withdrawal: If we have collected your Personal Information with your consent, you may withdraw your consent at any time. However, we may no longer be able to provide you with the Services. In order to exercise your rights, you may click on the above link and/or contact our privacy officer at using the contact information below.We do not make use of automated decision-making (decisions about you that are based solely on the automated (i.e., no human involvement) processing data and that produce legal effects or that may significantly affect you).
Third Party WebsitesFor your convenience, some hyperlinks may be posted on the Alarm.com website and link you to other websites not under Alarm.com’s control. Alarm.com is not responsible for, and this Privacy Policy does not apply to, the privacy practices of those sites or of any companies that Alarm.com does not own or control. Alarm.com does not endorse any of these websites or pages, the services or products described or offered on such sites or pages, or any of the content contained on those sites or pages. Alarm.com encourages you to seek out and read the privacy policy of each website that you visit.
